Joshua

From the second he was born we knew he had Down Syndrome.  My husband and I had mixed feelings.  How could this happen?  What did we do?  There was a period of mourning for the child we thought we would have.  Many worried tears were shed, we had no idea what to expect.  How would I take care of him, and how would our lives be changed?  Joshua is now four years old almost five!  Looking back through the last years I have enjoyed every moment with Joshua.  He is always so cheerful and very busy. He loves so many people and he loves to go to new places. He plays the guitar, loves music, watches movie, great at gymnastics, will be in an inclusive setting for Kindergarten next year. If only I knew how "normal" and exceptional life would be with him I would not have spent even a moment mourning or shedding a tear, I would have been rejoicing.  If I could say one thing to others that have a child with  Down Syndrome it would be this....
Don't Worry The Time Away, But Enjoy it with all your Life.

I can't believe he is almost five!

Rose Capital of the High Plains?

I grew up in the Rose Capital of the Nation.  It wasn't until I moved to the high plains that I realized how fortunate it was to live where I grew up.  The first year of our marriage, I saw my husband outside watering the trees we had just planted.  I thought he was just teasing me. We never watered trees and we didn't have to plant them.  They were just always there. Of course it turns out, living on the High Plains, if you want trees you have to water them after you plant them and water, and water, and water and they still might not make it!
We lived in a rent house for seven years, when we first moved into the house there was no landscaping, no trees and no rose bushes. By the time we left we had planted 12 trees and many, many flowers, but it was always so hard to keep the trees and flowers watered well so I didn't think rose bushes would work. It was October when we purchased our own home on the plains.  I knew there had to be some plants dormant but my expectations were not set high.  I was so surprised when spring time rolled around at the number of plants, trees and flowers that kept popping up all around the yard.  Then I noticed we had rose bushes....everywhere!  I counted at least 10 rose bushes!  I grew up in the "Rose Capital of the Nation," but at my house it is, "The Rose Capital of the High Plains!"

Babies, Babies and more Babies!

Babies are so cute with their soft skin, big toothless grins and big gleaming eyes. I love photographing these precious little angels. These are some of my favorite from the latest baby sessions.  It makes me want to have a forth!  ;)

This is a Memory DVD I created for a Senior with photos from her Brunch.

CM Memory DVD's are created to be played on your Dvd player!

CM Memory Dvd's are more than just a slideshow!

Each Memory DVD needs to be about 45-65 pictures. The song and photo's used for the movie are your choice! Any photos out of your "www.chasitymooneyphotography.com" album can be used. If you choose a longer song you can use more pictures, and if the song is shorter less pictures will look better.

I will scan pictures if needed. If you want to send digital copies you can send them to my e-mail address www.chasitymooney@midplains.coop. The price for the first memory Dvd is $55, and $20 for any additional copies.

Nikon Speedlight SB-900

I have had people ask me before, "Why are you using your flash isn't it bright enough outside?"  One big reason is because I want to set my own aperature and shutter speeds and sometimes those things cannot be done without the help of some kind of light....better yet my Nikon Speedlight SB-900! If all the technical difficulties of lighting were taken out of consideration (wouldn't that be nice), I would still use my flash! Why? The best answer is that I love the way the flash makes my subject look! In my opinion, the use of light  makes the photo more natural and gives the subject a great coloring. I realize to some that may be hard to believe. You may be thinking, "no way could adding a something make it more natural!" Look at these examples.

Before the Nikon Speedlight SB-900. I Metered for Ambient light in this photo.
With the Nikon SB-900 and the Lightsphere (a flash diffuser).
This is the fountain of youth...in a flash! :)  You can see it not only reduces the unwanted shadows it also creates a smooth glow to her skin. I took these images straight out of RAW no editing done. I did size the "with flash" version for my website, that will explain the slight differences in size. These pictures were both taken outside in a wooded area with cloudy and overcast skies, within a few seconds of each other.  My SB-900 was a wonderful addition to my collection. Would I be going to far to call it my "Assistant"?

I love to hear comments from others! Share your lighting stories.

Donuts from Daddy

It only happens every once in a while, just when the time is right, and when they are least expecting it. Daddy will bring the sack full of Donuts home.  When they see him get home from work carrying "the sack" they know the most colorful donuts imagined are inside. The sweet smell of Donuts fill the house.  They play with their donuts and count the sprinkles. They never forget to look into the middle of the Donut and they always listen to it.  I am not sure what they think will happen when they look inside or what they will hear. I do know that at the moment nothing else matters and they are all in a different world.  I hear laughter, happy sounds and giggles.   I enjoy watching the little ones as much as I enjoy watching him.  The Donuts might not last forever. The icing and sprinkles are licked off and the bottom usually end up in the trash.
The moment will last.  They will remember he took the time to make an ordinary day special, just by adding the sprinkles. They will remember Donuts from Daddy.

It is these little things that become great things.

Wishing you many "sprinkles" along the way.

The Spiders Web

I was walking outside one very damp morning when I saw The Spiders Web.  At least, part of the spiders web, the web was torn in pieces.  I couldn't help but feel sad for the little guy that spent so much time building it, securing, and perfecting it.  In the blink of an eye, or in this case the eye of the storm, his work had been destroyed only left in ruin.  He had to plan out everything, rebuild and remain strong through it all again.  There are many days I can relate to the spider. Sometimes it seems everything I do is just undone.  I have to plan out everything, rebuild and remain strong through it all again.  I never went back outside to see if the spider had rebuilt its home, but I can only assume he did. He had to have a home. Not only did he rebuild it, I am certain he made it better than it was before.  I am sure he learned what didn't work.  I daily remind myself that I will have to figure out what doesn't work, and learn to find out what does work.  I might not ever find out what will work every time because the eye of the storm will come again and might leave to ruin what I rebuilt.  As long as I plan out everything, rebuild and remain strong through it all it will be rebuilt.  Even the eye of the storm in no match for the father in heaven.

The New Year, The New Blog

As we begin a new year so many times we all want to begin "new" things.  I never have been one to actually write down and follow a new years resolution, but there is always a first for everything.  I love taking pictures and recording the memories of so many different people.  The best part is getting to know the families and children better in each two hour session or in the mini session (30min-1hour).  I am honored to be around those that I might not have ever really had a chance to learn about in this busy world.  I always feel closer to the families after a session, and would like it if they felt the same way about me and my life. Of course, I know that it is unrealistic to know everything about a person in just an hour or two.  With the new year in sight I would like to use this site as a way to share some of our special times and moments...we know there are so many.

With each post I hope to share something with you that will make your day brighter.

The New Year, The New Blog....a story about us all.
